Can Coffee Help prevent Alzheimers?
I use a little plug-in called StumbleUpon with my Firefox browser and as I sit this Thursday morning with my cup of joe, this article hits me in the face. Fact is, I have a crappy memory and I drink plain black coffee so there's got to be hope on the horizon! The article is long so I'll paraphrase:
They tested mice that were the equivalent of 70 in human years. They gave them what would be 5 cups of coffee a day. I would personally be wired and subsequently fired within a week...too much coffee. Scientists found that the mice given the coffee had a 50% reduce in the protein known to form in the brain in dementia patients and actually limits the formation of the two enzymes that form that protein! Rock and Roll! This sounds awesome!
The cons are for women undergoing invitro fertilization...and ho many of us are actually doing that right now. Also for caffeine addiction. News Flash, I don't function until I have coffee...you're too late on the addiction part. Ask my boyfriend how pleseant I am without it...Go head.
Here's where I read this: http://www.findingdulcinea.com/news/health/2009/july/Will-Coffee-Be-the-Next-Alzheimer-s-Drug.html
